My mother just told me that Mrs. Torbert had passed. I was a student at MHS in the 80s and she was a remarkable woman who told me at the time how important it was to her that no student left her classroom without proper typing skills as she knew that everyone would find them useful but some would rely on them to make a living. I truly think of her as being one of the most dedicated teachers I ever had — but on a lighter note, I'd be curious how many of her former students continue to fold their waste paper, never scrunch it, and if they always, ALWAYS put a double space after a period, even though it is no longer the typography fashion? I typed all my own papers in university and law school, and those of many others. I worked summers as a legal secretary typing away until I passed the bar, and now with computers I am on the keyboard constantly. I have thought of her often over the years, she made a difference to the lives of many. My condolences to her family.
