Joel Richard Spain's Obituary
Joel Richard Spain, 62, resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away December 11, 2019. He was born June 11, 1957 in Hastings, Nebraska to John and Doris Spain. Joe was a talented and sought-after glazier having worked for several glass companies in Tulsa and in the surrounding communities, both before and after partnering with his dad in Associated Glass & Mirror Co. in Bixby, OK. Besides his profession as a glazier, Joe was a gifted craftsman, carpenter, builder and stained-glass designer. His wood inlay work, stained glass windows, sun catchers and cabinetry was treasured by the family and friends to whom he gifted most of his work. He was also a cook and baker-his tabouli, potato salad, smoked meats and soups were frequent requests of friends for parties. He made the best breads, biscuits and sugar cookies. He loved his furry ‘children’ – many of his cats preceded him in death, but his tabby cat, ‘Bubba’, and 3-legged white princess, ‘Little Un’ he has left behind. Joe had a huge interest in all sports, but from a very early age, baseball was his passion and the sport in which he truly excelled. He played on Nathan Hale’s Varsity Team 1974 – 75 who won the State Championship. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.Joe was preceded in passing by his father, John Wesley Spain Sr. He is survived by his mother, Doris Spain; brother, John Wesley Spain Jr.; sister, Julianne Marie Bailey; sister, Jeannie Elizabeth Taylor(Bruce); nieces and nephews, John Wesley Spain III, Heather Dawn Spain, Rev. Kenneth Bailey Jr., Elaine Reichrath, Amy Kamila Taylor, Anna Michelle Taylor; 9 great-nieces and nephews and numerous other family members and friends. To those who wish to remember Joe, the family suggests, instead of flowers, donations to a not for profit animal rescue & adoption organization or a substance abuse prevention program of their choice. Celebration of Life Service will be 3:00 PM, Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel
