Joey M. Crawford's Obituary
Joey Maurice Crawford was born on July 25, 1979 to Jacquelyn Godwin and Joe Crawford in Bristow, OK. He departed this life on April 18, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Ok.Joey professed Christ as a child and was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church in Bristow, OK. He graduated from Bristow High School in 1998. Joey was a remarkable Bristow High School athlete where he received honors in 1998 as both a high school All-State football and basketball player. Joey signed a letter of intent for a football scholarship at Oklahoma University, but attended NEO in Miami where he was an outstanding linebacker. Joey later transferred to Langston University where his football career flourished. He received numerous awards and was regarded as Langston’s best football player. Joey completed his All-American college football career at Bacone College before joining the semi-professional Oklahoma Thunder Football organization. He was affectionately known as “Big 6” by his teammates and those who knew him! While playing with the Oklahoma Thunder Football team, Joey was awarded League MVP honors. In 2016, Joey entered the Hall of Fame for the Oklahoma Thunder. Joey became a youth football coach for the Tulsa Eagles Youth Football Team where he coached his son Zion in tackle football.Joey married Mikki Toney on March 21, 2005. Joey rededicated his life in 2005 and was re-baptized along with his wife at Church on the Move in Tulsa, Ok. As a member of Church on the Move, he served as an usher and greeter.He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Dorothy V. Jones Godwin and Harold Jack Godwin; paternal grandparents Vera Harrison and Jack Crawford. His mother and father Jacquelyn Godwin and Joe Crawford of Bristow, OK; (Sisters) Tazia Godwin and Classica Godwin of Bristow, OK; Alexis Lewis of Okmulgee, OK. (Father and Mother In-Law) Mike & Joyce Toney; (Uncles) Dwight Jones, Oklahoma City, OK; Mark Jones, Coweta, OK; Harold Jones(Lalita), Wichita, KS; Bobby Godwin (Marcia) of Moberly, MO; Bob Crawford and Joseph Crawford of Bristow, OK.
