Rob Gray's Obituary
Dr. John Robert “Rob” Gray, Jr., 68, of Tulsa, Okla., passed away on July 30, 2021. He was born April 12, 1953, in Muskogee, Okla., to John and Elaine Gray. He married the love of his life, Kathy Nobles Gray, in August of 1976.
Rob attended Oral Roberts University, then The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He completed a residency in family practice at OU-Tulsa, where he served as chief resident. He was also later board-certified in Geriatrics.
Rob loved and knew the Lord. Over several decades, he found enjoyment in serving in the churches that he and his family attended.
Rob’s patients remarked that he exhibited great compassion, listening to their cares and concerns, and taking the time to pray with them. His ministry as a doctor and opportunity to interact with patients meant a lot to him.
He spent 12 years as a Boy Scout leader, most of them with Troop 909. He enjoyed the monthly campouts, trips to Boundary Waters, camaraderie with his fellow Scout leaders, and opportunities to mentor young men.
One of his greatest joys in the last five years was as “Papa” to his granddaughters. He delighted in shooting stomp rockets with the girls in the park, exploring new places with them, and sharing picnics.
Some of Rob’s favorite pastimes were birding, geo-caching, building computers, reading, sharing “groaner” puns and enjoying a good cup of coffee with his family.
Loved ones that preceded him in death are his father, John Gray, and mother, Elaine Gray. Rob is survived by his wife, Kathy, of Tulsa, his daughter, Laura Klenda, of Siloam Springs, Ark., sons, Nathan and Andrew, of Tulsa, son-in-law Bear Klenda of Siloam Springs, Ark., granddaughters, Naomi and Norah Klenda, brother Steve Gray and his wife, Nancy, of Duncan, Okla., niece Kim Manning (Scott), nephew Chris Gray (Jordan) and several great-nephews and -nieces.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Rob with donations to Wycliffe Bible Translators (account #220256), supporting the ministry of Mike & Pat Mower. Rob and Kathy have been supporting their aviation missions ministry for almost 40 years, and they count them among their dearest friends. Wycliffe Bible Translators, P.O.
