John Inkster's Obituary
John Frederick Inkster, 81, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012, due to Parkinson's-related complications. Born November 28, 1930, in San Angelo, Texas to John W. and Pauline Inkster, John moved many times as a child and young man while his father was employed as a Geologist with Shell Oil Company, eventually moving to Tulsa, where he attended Will Rogers High School, Class of 1950. His college years were spent at Oklahoma A & M, Stillwater, where he played guard, jersey number 65, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education. While at Oklahoma A & M he met and married Ruth Annette Swanson, and they had two daughters, Pam and Kim. During his teaching and coaching career, John taught history and coached swimming, cross country, and track at McLain High School, Booker T. Washington High School, and retiring from his alma mater, Will Rogers. During the 1985-1986 season, John was inducted into the Oklahoma Track Coaches Association Hall of Fame. His favorite activities during his adult life were following his Oklahoma State Cowboys, refereeing, managing a number neighborhood pools, umpiring and coaching his daughters' sporting events, bowling, and fishing. In October, 1977 he married Bernice Calvert, and they started new interests in bingo at the Indian casinos and yearly trips to Las Vegas. John's final wish was to be able to go back to his home Aberdeen Heights Assisted Living to be with his friends and his best buddy, Rio, his kitty. John is preceded in death by his parents, his brother David, first wife, Ruth Annette, and second wife Bernice. John is survived by his daughters Pam Inkster and Kim Prater and her husband David, and two grandsons Matt and Marcus Prater. Sister-in-law Judy Inkster and her sons, David Ryan Inkster and Chris Hurst. Step-son Scott Calvert, and his wife Jeannette, and their son, Mikel Gordon. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 26, 2012, at 3 p.m. at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, Broken Arrow.
