Jon "Paul" Sandmeyer's Obituary
With deeply profound sadness, we announce the passing of Jon Paul Sandmeyer, fondly known to all as “Paul.” Born in Houston, Texas, on July 24, 1964, Paul departed this life from his residence in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on October 28, 2024, to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Paul’s vibrant, free-spirited nature and deep love for life left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Paul spent his childhood in Houston, Texas, and later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he thrived as an athlete, excelling in soccer with a talent so recognized he was invited to meet the legendary Pelé. He also enjoyed baseball, scouting, and playing the guitar, a talent that blossomed into a love of singing and songwriting. In the ’90s, Paul opened for country music star Bryan White and for rock band Confederate Railroad. He also loved performing at weddings venues.
Despite a strong desire to become a forest ranger, Paul chose to serve his country. He enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves during his senior year at Memorial High School in Tulsa, graduating with honors in both rifle and handgun expertise at Camp Pendleton. Upon returning home, he furthered his service by enlisting in the Air Force, where he dedicated two more years.
Paul adored his three children — Ryan Paul, Summer DeNae, and Seth Cameron — and cherished his close bond with each of them. His laughter, wisdom, and love will be treasured by all who knew him. He was also a proud grandfather to Riley Elizabeth and Cameron William Browning.
Paul’s love for God, his family, and his country defined him. Known for his warm, open nature, he truly never met a stranger. Paul faced life’s challenges with unwavering resilience and a strong faith, which he nourished through daily scripture reading. Although he endured many struggles, his spirit remained hopeful, as he greeted each day as a fresh opportunity to start over.
Paul’s earthly journey ended as he joined his eternal heavenly home, leaving those he loved with the comfort that he is now free from pain and suffering, soaring high above. He will truly be forever missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Paul is survived by his children, Ryan, Summer, and Seth; his mother and stepfather, DeeAnna and Steve Brown; his father, Ralph Sandmeyer, Jr.; his sister, DeeNae Simmons, and her husband, Tom; his brothers, Ralph H. Sandmeyer III and Rick Sandmeyer with wife Kristina; his stepsisters Stephanie Savage, Shannon Zellers, and Suzanne Pannell; and countless extended family members who will miss him dearly. Paul’s lifelong friend, Mike Cameron, also survives him, standing by Paul’s side always, including a special final reunion for their shared 60th birthdays.
In memory of Paul, donations may be made to Teen Challenge or the American Heart Association, honoring his life and legacy. We invite friends and loved ones to share condolences and memories with his family here on Paul’s tribute wall.
