Jose Nieto's Obituary
Jose Nieto was born March 19, 1928 in Alba Texas. On November 20, 2020 he passed peacefully at his daughter's home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the 7th of 8 children of Guadalupe and Cecilia Nieto, immigrants of Mexico. Jose was a proud veteran in the United States Army and learned the food industry while stationed in Germany as a cook. Jose was a butcher by trade and worked for Piggly Wiggly, Sipes, and Bruner's Old Time Meat Market. After retiring as a butcher, he enjoyed fulfilling many positions as a Maitre d' and bartender for many Tulsa clubs, including Cedar Ridge, Tulsa Country Club, Utica 21 Club, Greenfields, and Augustino's. In the 50's he was a proud owner of a gas and grocery store, in the 80's he owned two Mexican import stores. An avid car enthusiast his whole life always having an antique car in the drive an usually a prized Cadillac. His enjoyment of Mexican music, a daily soap opera, and occasional outing to the casino always put a big grin on his face. Accused by many of using black shoe polish as hair dye, he proudly maintained a full beautiful curly head of hair. Jose was very dedicated to his family. Jose was an active member of the original Guadalupe Church, he was very proud to be given the honor of carrying the cross at the feast of Guadalupe Mass at Holy Family Cathedral. He was proceeded in death by his loving wife of 50 years Betty Martinez Nieto and his stepson Gilbert "Wes" O'Brien, also brothers; Vidal and Daniel and Daniel II, sisters; Esperanza Copenhaven and Sara Nieto. He is survived by his daughter Lupe Nieto Latimer, and two stepson's; James Martinez and Ron O'Brien and two sisters;Concepcion "Connie" Castro of Tulsa and Juanita Torrealba of Caracus, Venezuela and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
