Katie Margaret Long's Obituary
KATIE LONGEveryone loved Katie. Whether she was holding court at Montereau or attempting another escape from University Village Nursing Home, she was always able to bring a smile to your face. It made no difference how well she knew you; she was there to bring joy into your life. Katie was always decisive, marrying her husband after a two week courtship that lasted over 70 years. A devoted mother and wife, she not only ran a successful catering business featuring five-tier wedding cake masterpieces, but was active in her son’s lives as a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was a member of Brookside Baptist church for over 65 years where she sang soprano in the church choir. She loved to make quilts and enjoyed making tailor-made clothes for her doll collection. Katie passed away with her family by her side Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the age of 93. She was born December 1, 1922 in Panama, Oklahoma and grew up in Spiro, Oklahoma. The youngest of ten children, she was preceded in death by her parents, all but one of her siblings, and her husband, Art “Lucky” Long. She is survived by her two sons, Art Long, Jr. and his wife Rita of Keystone Lake, and Paul Long of Tulsa, and her brother, Richard Eagleton of Tulsa. She has one grandson, Jeremy Englis of Broken Arrow, a great grandson, Eric Englis of Tulsa and a great granddaughter, Makayla Dikeman of Tulsa. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM with family receiving from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Floral Haven Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Thursday at 1:00 PM at Brookside Baptist Church. The family requests donation in lieu of flowers be made to the Oklahoma Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/oklahoma or Brookside Baptist Church.
