My memories of Lance...
Just a few calendar cycles before the current century’s commencement, our careers casually crossed as corporate colleagues. Anyone who knew Lance for more than a week was aware of his love for word-play. Alliterations were high on his list, but another linguistic skill held prominence.
After just a few e-conversations shared with Lance, I soon learned he was one adept Punster. He once replied to a departmental email, a joke from a co-worker. Her message ended with a PUNch-line that made reference to a particular hand jester and its ornithology namesake.
Within a few minutes, Lance responded: ‘That was a fowl joke, so beak-areful. When you parrot these, someone may talon you. Things could swift-ly tern! ’
Of all the smiles Lance brought to my face, over several decades an associate, that one will endure.
Because of his literary skills, or maybe the other way around, Lance loved conversation. He could talk your ears off if you let him. Being a modest introvert myself, I tried to avoid long discourse. Not with Lance, however. He always brought an engaging charm to any discussion. I’ll always cherish our ‘deep-though’ exchanges.
Like everyone else, Lance was quite unique. ~ An oxymoron tip of the cap to a Master!
My sympathies to all who were touched by Lance’s earthly existence.
Knowing Lance’s mom and dad helped me to see his love he had for others, his devotion to his family and his passion for the Lord. God is good...even when the sun doesn’t shine as brightly as we would like. And even though the years Lance had were not longer - God used him to display His glory to the world where he lived and served. Very blessed to know and love the family.
I met Lance in Jr. High in band. We both played trumpet. He always had a smile on his face. As we went through the yrs in band Lance was always a friend to me. Even though he was so much better trumpet player than I he always complimented me and tutored me. He was an outstanding guy. My prayers go out to his wife and children and family, his sister Susan and family, and to Mama Sue and Allen. He will be greatly missed.
