Larry Warrick, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at the age of 83, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born in Telluride, Colorado on February 20, 1941 to parents Lawrence “Bud” Arthur Warrick and Alice Huntman. Larry grew up and attended schools in several Colorado cities, including Telluride, Grand Junction, and Pueblo. He moved with his wife Carolyn and son Duane to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1967 and resided in their home for the rest of his life. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy of dedication to his family, community, and passions.
Larry spent his career as a highly skilled machinist, working for Tulsa Brake and Clutch before joining Production Manufacturing, where he retired in 2009. Known for his precision and craftsmanship, he took great pride in his work and earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike. His work ethic and attention to detail were hallmarks of his professional life, reflecting his character and commitment to excellence.
Outside of his career, Larry was a driving force in the local racing community. As president of the Tulsa Timing Association, he was instrumental in organizing and managing racing events at Tulsa International Raceway for several decades. His leadership helped shape the track into a beloved gathering place for drivers and fans, creating memories for generations of racing enthusiasts. In his early years, Larry wasn’t just a supporter of the sport—he was a competitor. He traveled across Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Kansas, driving race cars and dragsters with skill and determination. His passion for motorsports was contagious, inspiring others to share in the thrill of the race.
In addition to his contributions to racing, Larry had a profound impact on youth sports in Tulsa as a coach and administrator. As president of the Tulsa Junior Athletic Association, he volunteered countless hours to ensure young athletes had the resources and opportunities to succeed. Whether it was organizing events, mentoring young players, or advocating for amateur athletics, his commitment to his community’s youth was unwavering. His work helped shape the lives of many, fostering a sense of teamwork, discipline, and pride among those he supported.
Above all else, Larry was a family man. His love and devotion to his wife, son, grandchildren, and many family members were evident in everything he did. He was the steady foundation for his family, always encouraging, always cheering them on, and always present with a kind word or a helping hand. He found joy in the simplest moments, from sharing stories of his racing days to spending time talking with family members about current events and fun memories.
Larry Warrick is survived by his wife Carolyn Warrick, son Duane Warrick and daughter in-law Kim Warrick, granddaughter Sydney Warrick, and grandson Daniel Warrick, and aunt Margaret Ricks, cousins Olivia Hines, Bill Rhoades, Judy Bonato, Chris Kroeger, brother in law Clyde Burner, nieces and nephews Rick Danforth, Debbie Nettles, Shaunna Torres, Paul Richardson, Christina Williams, Chad Burner, Corey Burner, Eric Burner, and all their families. We know they will all carry forward his values of hard work, generosity, and a zest for life.
