Louis "Jack" U. Taylor's Obituary
Louis U “Jack” Taylor, August 9, 1925 to July 7, 2015 Jack was born in Wanette OK to Verde Taylor and Edna (Smith) Taylor. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1942. After graduation he worked at the naval air base in Norman, OK until he went to work for Cities Service Oil Company in Pauls Valley on Jan 29, 1944. His oilfield work took him to Shawnee, OK where Jack met the love of his life, Lorraine Harris, who was working at a local drug store. They were married in Shawnee on June 3, 1945; and over the next seven years they would have 3 children, two girls and a boy. Their marriage would last almost 60 years . The 38 years of service to Cities Service found the family traveling a lot, with Jack working out of 32 locations from Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, New Mexico, Colorado, Mississippi, and even spent time in Argentina from 1969-1970. While in Argentina doing survey work, a mountain ledge collapsed with Jack on it and he suffered a leg injury. With the language barrier, Lorraine had a hard time explaining on which leg to do the surgery! The injury ended his career “out in the field” and he became a geophysicist for the company at their location in Bartlesville, OK until the company moved their office to Tulsa in 1971; there he worked until his retirement in 1982. It was after they moved to Tulsa that they became involved in one of his and Lorraine’s favorite activities – square dancing. They were long time members of the Buckaroo Square Dance Club, served on the club’s board of officers and even served as its President for a year. They enjoyed the fellowship and fun, and made many long lasting friendships. Jack lived life to the fullest enjoying other activities such as bowling, golfing, fishing, and camping at the lake. He attended many of his grandkids and great-grandkids various sporting events over the years. He also loved going to and watching OU football and OU women’s basketball. The family would travel to the bowl games to cheer on their “Sooners”- he was a big Sooners fan! Louis U “Jack” Taylor is survived by his son, Louis Steve Taylor and wife Sherry of Johnson City, Texas; daughters Jacque Martin of Maysville, OK; and Joy Smith of Broken Arrow, OK. Two sisters, Carolyn Taylor of Oklahoma City and Doris Giroux of Lexington, OK; seven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, of 60 years; a granddaughter Lori Smith; a grandson Shane Taylor; a son-in-law Kenny Martin; and a sister Bernice Broome. Funeral Services will be 12:30pm Friday, July 10, 2015 at the Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma followed by interment at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens.
