I am so sad to lose Uncle Lloyd. He has been one of the pillars of my life forever. There was always my dad, Buck Sutton, Uncle Velmer Riddle, and Uncle Lloyd at every family gathering. In the summer they would each make a freezer of ice cream and we would spend an evening in one back yard or the other. Sometimes, when they were young, there would even be playing on the old steel guitar and country songs sung. Our families enjoyed camping on the Illinois or Verdigris River and sleeping on old army cots under the stars. The grown-ups always competing to see who could catch the biggest fish, while we kids explored and swam up and down the river.
When Uncle Lloyd spoke we listened. He had a look that he could always count on to keep us kids in line. I think that made his laughing and story telling even more fun. After growing up I still really enjoyed his stories about when he and my parents were growing up around McAlister, Oklahoma. He was the last of that generation of my family. I am so glad that he kept his health, strength, and sense of humor long enough for me to grow old myself and still have him in my world, though I didn't see him often lately.
Although we are sad not to have him with us here, anymore, I know my dad was glad to see him arrive in heaven. Lloyd was one of his best friends as well as a nephew he grew up with, my dad being the youngest brother of Lloyd's dad, Roy. I bet the laughing and stories are flowing again, now that they are back together. If there is fishing in heaven Daddy will be anxious to show Lloyd the best spot.
