Marinee G. Ricks' Obituary
Marinee Gail Ricks was born on May 29, 1952 to Jim and Carmelita Engel in Ada, OK and died January 16, 2024 in Tulsa. She was predeceased by her parents and her only brother Russ Engel. Marinee is survived by her loving husband Bill, her son Ryan Perkins, wife LaTisha Perkins and granddaughter, Addison and Bill’s sons Bobby Ricks, wife Holly Ricks and granddaughters Lydia and Chloe, Doug Ricks, wife Christian Ricks, and granddaughters Taylor, June, Ash and great-granddaughter Canyon. Marinee’s father was a petroleum engineer and the family moved around the country from oil field to oil field, finally to Oklahoma City. This traveling early on is probably what gave her a love for traveling. She just finished visiting all 50 states. She graduated from Putman City High School and attended OSU to pursue a teaching degree. While at OSU, she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority serving in several officer positions and on several committees. After graduation, she began a 33 year teaching and counseling career in Jenks, OK. While teaching in Jenks, she pursued Master’s Degree in Education to pursue becoming a school counselor at NSU which was granted in 1985. Later, Marinee moved to Texas, and was a school counselor and pursued becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. Her license was granted in 2001.
Marinee married Bill Ricks on March 13, 1982. They worked hard to provide opportunities for their three boys. Marinee faithfully facilitated and attended soccer and basketball games, theatre performances, academic competitions, church youth groups, and summer camps. She prioritized higher education and worked to ensure all three boys attended and graduated from college.
Marinee and Bill moved back to Tulsa for retirement in 2008. Marinee continued her love of family by assisting with grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their events. She joined the Assistance League of Tulsa, an organization that clothed disadvantaged elementary school children in Tulsa and the surrounding area. Various schools would identify the children with the most need in their school and bus them to the AL facility where they were given several sets of new clothes including coats and shoes. Dressing the children gave Marinee some of her greatest joy. In addition, she published monthly newsletters and worked on the annual yearbook. She was a member of the Family Fellowship Community at Asbury Church where she was intimately involved in the planning and preparing many community functions and was very involved with member support. She continued her association with her KD Sorority Sisters throughout her life. She had many interests: gardening, crafting, traveling and becoming a master quilter. Marinee was the best at organizing everything and everyone. She never failed to take every opportunity that arose to help people. Marinee was full of generosity and self-sacrifice in every area of her life. We have all lost a most precious caring friend.
