Mrs Wortham was my sixth-grade teacher during the 1980-81 academic year. We had a number of outstanding educators during my six years at Peary, and I truly felt (at the time …. and still today) that her position as sixth-grade teacher was the icing on the cake for that whole experience. She prepared us well for transitioning from elementary school to junior high. She was a professional through and through. She loved her students, and she had a way of drawing-out our individual strengths and gifts. I still remember vividly her reading to us each day after lunch/recess, as a way to get our minds back into a learning mindset. "Island of the Blue Dolphin" will always make me think of Mrs Wortham. I am blessed to count her among the educators who helped prepare me for life.
