Martin Richard “Dick” Loescher, 77 of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Bolingbrook, Illinois, passed from this life on Friday, February 1, 2019 in a Tulsa hospital. Mr. Loescher was dearly loved and inspired many with his commitment to God, family, and friends. He was born October 26, 1941 to his parents, Martin Reinhard Loescher and Liesbeth Anna Wolf Loescher. He married the love of his life, Linda Joyce Montgomery on August 3, 1965 and was married for over 53 years.Dick grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts as the youngest of four siblings. As a child, he loved to play baseball. He enjoyed playing board games as well, including caroms and chess, especially with his dad. He also learned how to work alongside his dad painting houses.During college, he was asked to tutor a young lady in math, who later became his wife. After graduating from Wheaton College, Dick became an 8th grade math teacher and taught at Westmont Junior High in Westmont, Illinois for approximately 40 years. Passionate about sports, Dick coached junior high softball, refereed soccer and volleyball games, and played baseball on adult leagues into his sixties. Baseball was his greatest joy, serving his teams as shortstop and pitcher. Dick would say, “I never feel closer to God than when standing on a pitcher’s mound.”Throughout his adulthood, Dick put his heart and soul into serving God and man. At church, he served on the board and as a Sunday school teacher. In school, he always provided a listening ear and advice to students and colleagues alike, often sharing his faith. For his family, he sacrificed to provide amazing family vacations and never missed activities that his kids were involved in. For the world, he gave many hours of his time collecting donations for World Vision as well as sponsoring children across the globe. Even in his later years, he and his wife served the ladies in a local nursing home, visiting them regularly and providing them with gifts and craft activities. In all of these ways, Dick demonstrated his love for God, living out 1 John 3:18, which admonishes us: “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”Dick is survived by his loving wife, Linda Joyce Loescher of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Bolingbrook, Illinois; one son, Randy Loescher and wife Kerry of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; one daughter, Sharon Mallett and husband Chris of Middletown, Connecticut; one sister, Evie Hopkins of Hadley, Massachusetts; two brothers, Ron Loescher of Amherst, Massachusetts and Friedhelm Loescher and wife Becky of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren, Paola, Yoseli, Dania, Jesus, and Samuel Loescher of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Aaron, Phillip, Jonathan and Heidi Mallett of Middletown, Connecticut; and one great-grandchild, Oakley Loescher of Tulsa, Oklahoma.Service will be held Friday, February 15, 3:00pm at the Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.www.gobgi.org/dickloescher
