Oh boy, what a character Mrs. Harn was. And the sayings she could come up with. A very quick wit she knew how to keep 8th graders in line AND interested in math. I remember one time she was writing something up on the board when someone in the room said, "Mrs. Harn, I can't see the board because you are in the way." In an instant, she swung around without looking at the person making the comment, sternly reporting to the class, "My mother did not birth a door!" The class was already quiet, but that comment made everyone really pay attention. I have to laugh very loudly everytime I think about that situation. She was so good at explaining math while maintaining order, after all, most 8th graders at Wright Jr High were not really thinking a whole lot about classes or what some adult was trying to say or teach. But Mrs. Harn kept everyone's rapt attention during her classes. Don't know how she did it day in and day out. Maybe it was the knitting that occupied her time between classes when she was working as hall monitor during class breaks. And she was a great supporter at Wright football and basketball games. Don't you dare call her an athletic supporter–she would give you that stern look and possibly give you a good zinger to boot. She may have been all of 5' 3" but she was such a dynamo. It was quite sad having to graduate from her class–can't say that I enjoyed or learned as much as I did in Mrs. Harn's class.
