Thinking of you Ned Jr, Ann and David and remembering Uncle Ned on this day of celebration and saddness… Memories of Grandma and Grandpa's house, a delicious meal waiting, my dad (Ray) and Ned enjoying each others company, usually the evening ended with a game of Rook where all the "Walters family" played like they were rolling dice for big dollars in Las Vegas, who could outwit the other sibling or parent and win the game!Remebering Ned … driving across the United States to Connecticut to be with his brother Ray at Gaylord Rehab Hospital, Memories of their laughter flew around the room, a remarkable testimony of their love and respect for one another. Recounting days in the Army and Navy my dad enjoyed it so You could tell they were both "cut for the same beautiful cloth" . Ned stayed and watched my dad in the rehab gym working so hard to regain his strength. When Ray would rest Ned was busy visiting in the hallways with patients who were clincally comprimised with much equipment in tow but some how he could spread his sunshine and receive a gentle grin from those lucky enough to have him cross their path.Someone else mentioned CELEBRATE NED's life of family, children, grandchildre and great grandchildren! Serving his country he was fearless and continued that remarkable trait …racing into his eighties!Uncle Ned will remain in our hearts forever. With Love and may God Blessings be with you all,Kathy (Walters) Sutherland

Our condolences to Ned Jr, David, and Ann and all of Ned's family, friends and loved ones. We are grateful for Ned's service to our country during WWII while serving aboard U.S. Submarines USS R-6 SS-83, USS Catfish SS-339, and USS Diodon S-349. To our "Brother of the Dolphin" we say, "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. Rest in peace." May God bless his loved ones with peace, comfort them and heal their broken hearts. You are in our thoughts and prayers. — Rev. Ray Fritz, National Chaplain United States Submarine Veterans, USSVI.
I have known Ned for a long time, He was always so cheerful and kind. In a race 1980 at Hallett I was about to make my big move on the car in front of me. Quick lane change under braking, then I remembered Ned was right beside me, I forgot to check to see where Ned was. Ned knew I was not very experinced as a racer and had left me room. When i talked to him after the race I told him I was sorry , Ned said" That is the fun part of racing".
