Norma "Jean" Isern's Obituary
Norma “Jean” Loertcher Isern was born on September 14, 1953, to Norman and Judy (Garner) Loertcher, in Neosho, Missouri. She passed away on November 8, 2023, at her home in Broken Arrow.
When she was a senior in high school, the family moved from Neosho to Tulsa, where Jean graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1971. After graduation, she enrolled as a student at Northeastern Oklahoma College (NEO A & M) in Miami before ultimately transferring to the University of Oklahoma. It was during her time as an OU Sooner that she met the love of her life, J.W. Isern. Jean and J.W. were married in Norman, Oklahoma on August 11, 1979.
J.W.’s work took them across the United States…they made homes in Harlingen, TX, Wichita, KS, Houston, TX, Atlanta, GA, as well as Los Alamos, NM throughout his career. Regardless of where they lived, Jean made friends easily and enjoyed numerous social activities, including Bible study groups, bowling teams, book clubs, and more. J.W. passed away in May of 2009 in Los Alamos, NM. Following the loss of J.W., Jean returned, once again, to her friends in the Atlanta area.
Although they moved often, Jean was able to spend the majority of her career, in each of these locations, as an employee of State Farm Insurance. She retired from State Farm Corporate, as a claims representative, in 2015. Upon her retirement, she moved back to Albuquerque, NM, and had recently returned to Broken Arrow in April of 2023.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, J.W. as well as by their sweet pups Gracie, Snickers, and Willie. She is survived by her mother, Judy Loertcher of Broken Arrow, her sister, Vicky Loertcher of Tulsa, as well as a host of extended family members and friends. The family would like to express gratitude to Jody, Brittain, and Jennifer with Compassas Hospice, Reverend Ricky Jones of River Oaks Presbyterian Church, and the many friends who were so supportive in her final days. She will be sorely missed.
At Jean’s request, there are no services planned. Instead, she will be cremated and has requested that her ashes, along with the ashes of J.W., Snickers, and Willie be scattered in the mountains of their beloved New Mexico at a later date.
To commemorate Jean, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider donations to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements entrusted to Floral Haven Funeral Home.
