Opal P. Strange's Obituary
Opal Strange, born on June 28, 1933, to Grover Cooper and Ella Mae Davis Cooper in Redland, Oklahoma, passed away on May 28, 2024. Opal grew up in Stilwell, Oklahoma, as the youngest of all the children. At 16, Opal moved to Kansas City, Missouri. At 20, she met and married the love of her life, Calvin Strange. Their marriage lasted 51 wonderful years until Calvin's passing in 2004.
A long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Opal was known for her love of sewing and her impeccable personal style—she always had her hair and nails done. Outgoing and sociable, Opal was both stubborn and kind-hearted. She worked as a wallpaper hanger for many years before becoming a cook at Furr’s Cafeteria, where she worked for 20 years. Opal was an excellent cook who cherished bringing her family together at every opportunity she could.
Opal has gone home to be with the Lord, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, and cherished memories. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Opal is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Calvin, her daughter Debra Kay McGrew, her father Grover, mother Ella Mae, brothers George, Henry, Chester, Riley, and Willie, and her sisters Ester Kerr, Arttiebell Moore, Flora Thomas, and Ruby Cook.
She is survived by her son Douglas Strange of Los Angeles, CA, and her son Justice McArter and his wife Terry of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Opal was a proud grandmother to three grandchildren: Brittany Rahm and her husband Josh of Broken Arrow, OK; Calvin McArter and his wife Morgan of Virginia Beach, VA; and Cody Heck of Ada, OK. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren.
