I have known Rajat since August 1978: when I joined Medical School at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
We really connected in 1991 when I moved to the USA and started my career as a Transplant Surgeon. Rajat and I had a common interest in Kidney Transplantation. We met regularly at several Transplant meetings.
A couple of years before the pandemic we started an organization called the Transplant Professionals of Indian Origin (TPIO), with Dr. Sundaram Hariharan of Pittsburgh. Rajat was a founding Board Member of TPIO and single handedly got us non profit status.
This is now a vibrant organization which supports Education, Mentorship, Networking and Community events related to all kinds of Transplants.
TPIO members include Transplant Physicians, Surgeons, Researchers, Fellows, and others. On our Board we have a Bank CEO and a Transplant Recipient.
Much has been spoken about his deep commitment to Kidney Transplant patients.
His passing is an immense loss for all of us.
We will always cherish his memory, and keep on the great work he started with TPIO!
