Reece Morrel Sr's Obituary
Reece B. Morrel, Sr. was born on March 20, 1940, in Macomb, OK, to John and Zula Morrel. He
departed this life on Sunday, November 27, 2022, surrounded by his family.
Morrel graduated from Shawnee High School in 1957 and then enrolled in Central State College in
Edmond, OK. While in school, he met his loving wife of 62 years, LaReta Martin. They married on
August 6, 1960.
Morrel earned his B.S. in Accounting in 1961 and began working for the IRS while attending night
school at The University of Tulsa College of Law. Upon completing his law degree in 1966, he worked
as a trust officer with the National Bank of Tulsa, now Bank of Oklahoma. A year later, he went into
private practice and established his own firm, Reece Morrel & Associates, Inc.
Morrel, an AV Rated attorney, specialized in tax planning, estate planning, tax disputes, criminal tax
cases, civil litigation, and the resulting business law in connection with the tax work. Over the years,
he served as legal counsel to a broad base of clientele involving a wide array of enterprises such as
real estate ventures, professional architectural and engineering firms, medical practices,
manufacturing businesses, wineries, agricultural operations, and wholesale and retail businesses.
After practicing law for 50 years, Morrel retired in 2016.
His civic responsibilities included most recently serving as an Elder of Southbrook Church of Christ,
TU alumni board member, Tulsa Rotary Club, and was active with the Tulsa Christian Foundation for
more than 30 years. He contributed countless hours of pro bono service each year to several
churches.
Morrel was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Morrel; sisters, Shirley Jeanson, Joyce
Allen, and Karol Cheatwood; and granddaughter Rachel Courtney Morrel. He is survived by: his wife
of 62 years, LaReta Morrel; children, Reece and Dana Morrel; LaRhea and Danny Dallis;
grandchildren, Logan Dallis, Alayne and Hannah Morrel; brothers, Dr. Jim Morrel and Robert Morrel;
sister, Doryce Livingston; many cherished nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Floral Haven Rose Chapel. Live streaming via floralhaven.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Little Light House.
