Rex and Barbara were wonderful parents to my friend in my community, Rexanne. They were lovely people who held each other up and made the world bright. I am glad to know I can visit their graves at the same resting place when I visit my grandparents on my mother's side, or send a prayer up for the family.
Memories of being in their home was like a homey version of the bible schools our kids have had for a week in the summer today. The way they celebrated children's songs of worship and taught other children to learn values and character through worship music. Rex looks the same as I remember him, seeing him rest I guess after work in a chair as I came in and out. It seems like his aging just stopped at this place to me, looking on from a far.
I remembered worrying for Rexanne she was the bumper crop of her siblings and people talked about how much older her parents were and to watch over and helped shuttle in case her parents might not make it for her. But they did, Rex made it to 93. They really showed everyone not to talk or worry, they had it.
It was not without struggle especially for her mom's health I came to know, they both made it almost to at least know Rexanne's kids graduated. Looking back, I might not have guessed her father would outlive her mother just because of her mother's spunk and fire. But today I know when fighting for their own lives, women can conjure up some spunk and fire to make it further on the journey. I guess you just never know how the story ends. I am glad to hear Rex and Rexanne got some reflection time together at the end.
Good people with their Lord and Savior now. Sending love with my reflections.
