Richard Summers' Obituary
Richard Allen Summers, 84, of Tulsa, OK passed from this life on October 18, 2023. Richard was born in Fort Wayne, IN to Claude Menta Summers and Alice Josephine Bowser. Richard married the love of her life Phyllis Warden on May 29, 1965.
Richard loved weather. He volunteered in the US Weather Bureau in High School in Fort Wayne, IN. He obtained a GS-5 Meteorological Rating. He served in Cold War in Berlin, Germany 1961-1964. He saw some of the wall being built. He graduated Oklahoma State University with a BS Degree in Agriculture Major Forestry in 1967. He continued to work at OSU until Phyllis graduated. He worked for Amoco Corporation for 25 years in downtown Tulsa. After retirement Richard & Phyllis volunteered with the Animal Rescue Foundation as foster parents for dogs. He also loved feeding birds and squirrels and other wildlife.
He was a long time member of Heritage Church of Broken Arrow (formerly HUMC). As he was dying of liver cancer, he looked forward to Heaven.
He loved his family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather.
His final message: “To All” Do not wear Black for sorrow, but wear colors for Joy. Do not cry tears of sorrow, but only tears of Joy. With Love to all Family-Friends-and Church. DO NOT BE SAD WHEN ALL IS WELL
Richard is survived by his wife Phyllis, son Darrell Summers and wife Debra, daughter-in-law Rebecca Summers, grandchildren Molly Summers, Ben Summers and wife Amelia, Katie Summers, Jack Summers, Grace Summers, Hannah Summers, Emma Summers, Coral Pham and husband Khanh, great-grandchildren, Ava Summers, Hazel Summers, Brandon Pham, Oliver Pham and numerous nephews, nieces, and loved ones. Richard was preceded in death by his son Duane Summers.
Visitation to be held Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from 3-7 PM at Floral Haven Funeral Home
Funeral service will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Floral Haven Funeral Home
