Richard Dale Wood's Obituary
Richard Dale Wood, 76, of Tulsa, OK died on Saturday, August 20, 2011. He was born January 30, 1935 in Horton, KS, the son of Richard Glen Wood and Alice Maxine (Crow) Wood. Dale was raised on a farm in Whiting, Kansas until his father's untimely death in 1948. The family moved to Kansas City, KS in 1951 and Dale attended and graduated from Washington High School where he met his sweetheart Bonnie. They were married in Kansas City in 1954 at the First Assembly of God of Kansas City, KS. His career was in the trucking industry with over 20 years at Chief Freight Lines headquartered in Tulsa with his final position as general office manager. Dale was a dedicated and exemplary father providing his sons with a strong foundation in our Christian faith. He was a devoted and loving husband who lived to serve the love of his life. He died from complications of melanoma cancer. Dale is survived by his wife Bonnie (Webb); sons Stephen Wood and his wife Jan (New York City), Terry Wood (Kansas City), Randy Wood (Collinsville, OK); sister Anita McMahan (Denver); and several granddaughters including Captain Stephanie Wood (Afghanistan), Savannah Wood, and grandson Caleb Wood. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Richard Glen Wood, and brother Gerald Lee Wood. A memorial service will be held at Floral Haven Chapel in Broken Arrow, OK at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 24, 2011. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Grace Church in Broken Arrow.
