Robert Randle Gilbert III's Obituary
Robert Randle Gilbert, III was born May 17, 1938, and died July 25, 2022, at the age of 84. Rob was born to Yvonne (Welch) and Robert Randle Gilbert, Jr. in Dallas, Texas. He was the older brother of Lee and Ben. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1956 and continued his education at Oklahoma University and graduated with honors in 1961 with a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering. While at OU he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
After graduating from OU, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy where he served as a navigator (with a sextant, stars, and math, not GPS). Rob served two years in the Navy, then moved to Austin, Texas and entered the University of Texas Graduate Program. In 1965 he graduated with high honors from UT with an MBA. He then began his long and well-respected career in banking in Oklahoma and Texas.
Rob was active in the community serving in leadership positions on the boards of Mid-America Industrial Park (Chairman), University of Oklahoma Foundation (Chairman), Tulsa Airport Authority, Federal Reserve Bank, Tulsa Boys Home, and many others. He was also Past President of Southern Hills Country Club.
Rob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Lynn (Huntington); his children, Sally Hoch, Laura Baysinger (Billy), Susan Ware, Kathryn Cardwell (Joe), and Mark Gilbert; his eleven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren (soon to be nine). Also, surviving is his greatly loved brother, Ben, and his wife Kerry.
He will be remembered as a natural leader, an adoring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a loving and giving friend.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Harvard Avenue Christian Church, 5502 South Harvard, with a reception to follow at the church. You may watch the service by clicking on the youtube link for the service. https://youtu.be/CX9Wbr5q_ak
