Robert James McCartney's Obituary
Robert James McCartney was born September 9, 1918 at Fort Reno, OK to John James and Anna Lee (Timmons) McCartney. He passed away Thursday, September 13, 2012 at the age of 94. Robert was reared in Kingfisher, OK and earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Oklahoma A & M. He served in the United States Navy as an Ensign, serving in World War II and Korea. Robert remained in the Naval Reserves attaining the rank of Commander. He also served as Information officer for the U.S Naval Academy at Annapolis. He worked for Tulsa Public Schools as a teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal. Robert moved on to the Education Service Center and worked as Director of Building, Planning and Maintenance until retiring. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Lee McCartney; his brother, William A. McCartney; sisters, Sue McCartney Roos and Gail McCartney Raybern. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara (Konklin) McCartney of the home. He is also survived by daughter, Jan Griffiths and husband, Steven of Tulsa; son, Stephen McCartney and wife, Janet of Sapulpa; two granddaughters, Courtney Deming and husband, James of Tulsa and Megan Griffiths of Omaha, NE and great-grandson, Griffin Deming. .A Memorial Service will be held 12:30 PM Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Nathan Mattox of University United Methodist Church..
