Roger William Coulter's Obituary
Roger William Coulter, age 86, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, passed away on 09/06/25. in Tulsa, Ok. He was born in Pratt, Kansas to Harold Earl and Hilda Ann (Uhl) Coulter on February 2, 1939. He was raised in Pratt, Kansas and graduated from Pratt High School in 1957, where he was in the band, football, basketball, track and student council. Roger attended and graduated from Kansas State University in the spring of 1962 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity where he joined a group of fraternity brothers and formed the singing group “The Epsilons”. The Epsilons would perform on weekends and at various venues. During the summer of 1960, they performed in Las Vegas at the Mint Casino. The winter of 1960-1961, they went on a USO tour to the far east, performing in Hawaii, Guam, Japan, Korea and the Philippines. During their six-week tour, they entertained nearly 17,000 service men and women. Roger was also a member of Steel Ring, Sigma Tau and Pi Tau Sigma engineering honorary fraternities. In the spring of 1959, Roger met his future wife at KSU. After marring Nancy Louise Ross on August 13, 1961, they returned to Kansas State University where Roger was chairman of Engineering Open House and he finished his degree. After graduating in the spring of 1962, they moved to Tulsa Oklahoma where he went to work with Douglas Aircraft Co. as an Associate Engineer. While at Douglas, Roger attended Tulsa University obtaining a MS in Mechanical Engineering in 1965. Soon after graduation, he obtained his Professional Engineering License with the State of Oklahoma. In 1970, he was assigned duties in the computer department and later became the Manager of Data Processing and later Manager of Work Flow Systems. Roger retired from McDonnell Douglas in 1994 and moved to their home on Grand Lake where he started a construction company, Coulter’s Construction Co. In 2006, they moved to Broken Arrow where he volunteered at the Broken Arrow Police Department for seven years and was president of his homeowner’s association for 12 years and president of The Tulsa Cats (a K-State booster club) for 11 years. Roger enjoyed wood working, boating, golf, attending K-State football games and being with family and friends. Roger and Nancy had two children, Deborah Ann born in 1966 and David Ross born in 1970. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, sister Joyce Rush (Husband Gene Rush). Roger is survived by his daughter Deborah Lewis (husband Barry Lewis) and son David Coulter (wife Bonnie (McCool) Coulter, and his four grandchildren Jarret Coulter, Alexis Lewis, Lane Coulter and Brody Coulter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Disease Research or Kansas State University Foundation.
