Rusty L. Goodsell's Obituary
MEMORIAL TRIBUTERusty L. Goodsell, left us on Tuesday April 15th, 2014 the way he tried to live his life, with dignity and respect. Rusty was a 62-year-old Tulsa resident. He was born October 10th, 1946 to Wilbur and Faye Goodsell. Rusty grew up in Tulsa and graduated in 1964 from Will Rogers High School where he was dominant in football. After High School, Rusty had his choice of universities and decided on a full ride to the University of Arkansas to play football. He was injured and redshirted as a Razorback so he went to Tahlequah and finished out his football career at Northeastern State University. It was here Rusty asked the now famous question, “Coffee, Tea or Me?” to a stunning beauty from Checotah named, Linda Lou Williams. They made their love official and married November 27th, 1965. Their union gave Rusty three children and seven beautiful grandchildren. All of whom he adored.Rusty was a casual man. He had a lifelong love affair with golf, and desperately wanted someone to sponsor him at the World Series of Poker Tournament in Vegas. He loved to use his oversized remote control, flipping between watching the History Channel, old westerns, war movies and college sports. He conveniently owned a pair of giant headphones attached to the TV to drown out the house “riff raff.” Rusty loved woodworking and building projects in his shed. He always said he wanted to build his own casket and if he could, he probably would have constructed his own stairway to heaven. He dreamed of traveling, loved to dance and loved to brag. Hopefully in heaven he’ll actually shoot that five under par.So despite his probable disappointment of not holding a golf themed funeral, Rusty is now finally at peace and resting comfortably in heaven. He will be missed greatly and thought of often with love. Family and friends will fondly remember Rusty as a fun and caring teacher, dynamic coach, devoted golfer, loving husband and nurturing father and grandfather. His parents, Wilbur and Faye Goodsell, preceded him in death. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Linda Goodsell; his children Shannon Goodsell and his wife Melissa and their children Skylar and Dylan; Sean Goodsell and his wife Lindsey and their children Alexis, Stella and Eva; his daughter Shana Goodsell and her significant other Greg Jones and their children Beau Jones and Beck Jones; his brothers Rodney Goodsell and Randy Goodsell; his stepmother Mary Lue Goodsell; his stepsisters Cindy Au and Terry Lee; his stepbrothers Scott Epp and Rodney Epp; numerous other extended family members and a community full of lifelong friends.
