Sherwin Bob EverdingHusband of 55 years to IlaMae, Father, Papa, friend passed peacefully at home in Tulsa, Oklahoma surrounded by his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren on Sunday, July 3rd, 2016 after a long battle with throat cancer. Sherwin was born on March 1, 1936 in Tripoli, Iowa, to Albert and Anita Everding. He was the youngest of seven siblings, including a twin sister, whom have all preceded him in death. He graduated from East High in Waterloo, Iowa in 1955 where he played football and wrestled undefeated. He attended the University of Iowa on a wrestling scholarship. Sherwin met IlaMae Hagen on a blind date in Kansas City and they married on December 29, 1961. They celebrated 55 years together. He served actively in the Army for two years and the Reserves for four from 1958 to 1964. He worked for the 697 Engineer Pipeline Division building tank farms for fuel in Ft. Hood, TX. Sherwin became an Electrical Contractor in 1966 and opened Everding Electric, the largest non-union electrical contractor in the state, in 1969. He retired from the electrical business in 1986 and became a home builder until he retired again in 1990. Sherwin served as Deputy Sheriff in 1978, was Chairman of National Group Insurance and Tulsa Housing Authority for 9 years. He was a member of Associated Builders and Contractors, and served one year as president. Sherwin was also a long-time member of the Lunker Bass Club and the Donut Shop Crew. Sherwin is survived by his wife IlaMae, children Mark Everding and wife Lara of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Luke Everding and wife Teresa of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Lesa Moore and husband Tres of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and 4 grandchildren; Ross, Morgan, Tyler and Trista. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing cards, square dancing with IlaMae, playing cars and building things with his grandkids, and tinkering in the garage. He was quick to help his friends or neighbors and could fix just about anything with Ducktape and a hot glue gun. For the last couple years Sherwin enjoy coloring and became quite the artist. He became notorious for his Fish Fry’s and loved to throw a party. Sherwin was never short on words of wisdom and would share whether we wanted to hear it or not! He loved to cook and give away the leftovers, a drink in hand and one for you too. Sherwin was a devoted husband, father, and papa. He will be missed dearly until we meet again. The family would like to thank, Season’s Hospice; Kristin Dyson and Shana Brunner, L.A., Amber, and Gayle, for loving dad and giving him the best care.
