Tom Sorrels' Obituary
Tom Sorrels left this earthly world to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, June 27, 2015. Born on March 5, 1956 in Moberly, MO, he grew up in Tulsa as the only child of Guy Roy and Ola Sorrels. He graduated from Nathan Hale High School, earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from OSU and a Masters degree in Administration from NSU. He worked for Broken Arrow Public Schools for 32 years, retiring in July 2010 as principal of Oliver Middle School. During his retirement, he taught the Servants Sunday school class at First United Methodist Church, was heavily involved in Walk to Emmaus, enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, skeet shooting, and time with his family. He was an avid Bible scholar, passionate about the Lord and sharing his faith with others. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Rita Sorrels, daughters and families: Melissa Berlien (Adam: Mason, Daniel); Kim Sorrels; April Lewis (Brent: Brady, Brooks); Jennifer Ashley (James: Haddie, Norah); and Melissa Leedy (Lincoln: Adrienne, Austin).Tom is preceded in death by his parents: Guy Roy and Ola (Henson) Sorrels. The family will be receiving friends, 5:30 P.M. ~ 7:30 P.M., Wednesday evening, July 1, 2015, at the Floral Haven Funeral Home Visitation Room. A celebration of life funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, July 2, 2015, at The First United Methodist Church, 112 East College Street, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Memorial contributions can be made in Tom’s honor and name to The First United Methodist Church of Broken Arrow, or to the Walk to Emmaus.
