Van Ballou's Obituary
Van Ballou, 92, resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away February 26, 2020. Van was born December 14, 1927 in Tank, OK to Susie Vann and Dave Ballou.
Van attended the Chilocco Indian School and later became a machine shop foreman and retired after 40 years from Vickers. He joined Floral Haven as a part-time handyman and stayed for nearly 20 years. Van was a veteran in the United States Army proudly serving in WWII and the Korean war.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, fondly known to all as Pepa. Van was honored to serve the Masonic Daylight Lodge as Worshipful Master, the Akdar Shriners and was Worthy Patron of the Oklahoma Order of Eastern Star. He served these organizations for over 50 years.
Pepa cared deeply for his three children and raised them as faithful Christians who were always in church attendance on Sundays. His free-time was spent outside on his lawn which could have been mistaken for a local golf course. He loved taking pictures of his beloved wife, Mary, in front of the beautiful flower gardens he created. His grandchildren have so many memories of their travels and adventures with Pepa, always standing in the front seat of his pickup truck. They enjoyed trips to the local dump, sharing his Cherokee Indian heritage at Pow Wows and the frequent trips out West. He loved to tease and torment, always in good fun and no one was spared including the dogs.
Van is proceeded in death by his parents, Susie Vann Ballou and Dave Ballou; wife of 67 years Mary Ellen Ballou; son James William Myers; and daughter Julia Ann Edwards; sister, Johnanna Arneecher. He is survived by son, Clifford Eugene “Pete” Myers and wife, Cheryl; daughter-in-law Pat Myers; son-in-law Tony Edwards; 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to thank the fabulous nursing staff at Saint Francis South and Hospice of Green Country for their continued care and compassion for our family and the amazing support of Floral Haven for their special treatment to the Ballou family over the years.
