Vessie Nichols' Obituary
Vessie Nichols of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by family October 30, 2021. She was born on July 27th 1939 in Parsons Kansas to Mack and Lonnie Mae (Foster) Ware. She grew up in Parsons and Attended Parsons Schools graduating from Parson Senior High (The Vikings). She was denied Home Coming Queen as a senior in 1957 but elected the 1st Black Home coming Queen at the College of Emporia in the state of Kansas two years later in 1960! A Graduate from the College of Emporia she earned her Bachelor degree and became a elementary school teacher in Chicago Illinois for a number of years until returning back to Parsons Kansas!
Upon returning to Parsons Vessie raised 3 children with her husband, in the early 80”s Vessie, Art and Corey moved to Tulsa, OK. Vessie got rectified and became a part time teacher for many years as well as being a pioneer as one of Jehovah”s Witnesses before receiving a full time position at Union Schools Bovers Elementary a year later became head teacher over all the teacher at Bover’s! After 12 years of being so active as a Jehovah Witness and a School teacher she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, she fought it and beat it but had other run ends with cancer throughout out her life the phrase "the cat who had 9 lives" that was Vessie!
Vessie loved reading the Bible about Jehovah and had a passion in educating her children about Jehovah and his promises to mankind, she loved educating herself about the human body and educating others to take care of there bodies, she believed in the resurrection, she taught English and other subjects in school, English being her favorite and adhering to the proper pronunciation of words! Vessie was preceeded in death by her parents; 1 brother Lonnie Dee Ware; 3 sisters Virginia M Fulton; Alberteen Lambert; Bertha Turner. Vessie is survived by her husband , of 82 years Art of the home; Sons Tyrone and Corey of Tulsa and Broken Arrow, Daughter Crystal of Whitewright Texas; 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. The home Memorial service will be Nov 27th 2021 at 2004 W Austin Broken Arrow Ok 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
