Walter Waldron Drew's Obituary
Walter Waldron Drew, 97, was born in Tyndall, South Dakota on January 8, 1920. He passed on March 26, 2017 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Walter has had quite the journey in life. After dealing with the loss of his mother when he was just 13, he decided to join the Civilian Conservation Corp after high school. After Pearl Harbor, he volunteered to join the United States Army and served in Tunisa, Naples-Goggia, Rome-Arno, Rhineland, Southern France, and Central Europe. Shortly after being Honorably Discharged in 1945, he married the love of his life, Becky- just five days after returning home on October 5! Walter and Becky returned to South Dakota is dreams of taking up farming. But, in 1947, they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to raise a family. He worked various jobs over time, but spent 20 years with Crane Carrier Corp.Walter adored his wife and family. He was a wonderful neighbor, was active with his local church, and often volunteered in the community- always willing to help those he crossed paths with. He often spent his time reading the Bible, working on the garden, or fishing and hunting.Walter is preceded in death by his son, Roger K. Drew; parents, Agnes and Walter Drew Sr.; brothers, Clifford, William, Eugene, Daryl, Donald, and Richard Drew; and great grandson, Matthew Townliand.He is survived by his wife, Katherine “Becky” Drew; his sons, James and wife Meli Townliand, and W. Alan and wife Joyce Drew; nephew, Steven Brown; grandchildren, Cheyl Childs and Alan of Angus, Ontario, WesTownliand and Michele of Wenatchee, Washington, Brea Rossen and Kevin of Flower Mound, Texas, Tiffany Pectol and Jerrod of Bartlesville, Oklahomal, and Lacey Love and Taran of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; thirteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.He was deeply loved and will be forever remembered. Public visitation will be held at Floral Haven Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 4, from 5 pm – 8 pm. Graveside services will take place on Wednesday, April 5, at one in the afternoon.In lieu of flowers, Memorials can be made to Samaritan’s Purse in Walter’s honor.
