Carole Lynn Hughes

Carole Lynn (Wilson) Hughes, age 81, departed from this life on March 21, 2022. Carole was born November 17, 1940, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Tom L. Wilson and Dessie (Smith) Wilson. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dessie Wilson, her father Tom Wilson, brother Tom L. Wilson, Jr., and her beloved daughter, Jennifer (Jenny) Carole Hughes. Carole is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Jerry F. Hughes, Sr., by her son Jerry F. Hughes, Jr. and by the shining light of her life, grandson Jerry Matthew Hughes and his partner, Daniel Adkisson, step-granddaughters, Brandi House and Tiffany Cox. She will also be greatly missed by her best friend of over 45 years Judy Clark. Carole was loved by all who knew her, for her smile, humor and genuine interest in everyone she came in contact with. Her unique connection with children was evident. She worked with infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers in church, daycare and public school settings, and was particularly devoted to the needs of handicaped children of all ages. Carol's many skills led her to work in a program for teens at risk of dropping out of school, and she forged special bonds as she provided encouragement and comfort to teens who had experienced rejection and disapproval. Carole considered life a journey of love and giving. While she has gone on to join her wonderful mother and precious daughter, she leaves behind family and friends who will treasure her memory forever.
