Dr. Roy Dean Guthrie, 80, of Houston, TX, died on March 29, 2012, after an extended illness.Â He was born in Tipton, OK, on April 16, 1931, to Finis Brackston Guthrie and Audrey Guthrie.Â Dr. Guthrie served in the Air Force for four years during the Korean War.Â He did his undergraduate study at University of Oklahoma and then earned his Doctorate of Osteopathy from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville, MO, in 1961.Â After completing an internship at Tulsa Osteopathic Hospital, he practiced family medicine with partner Dr. Floyd Rosdahl in Skiatook, OK, for eleven years.Â He then partnered with Dr. Arthur Wallace, Sr. to found the emergency room at Tulsa Osteopathic Hospital, now Tulsa Regional Medical Center.Â He practiced emergency medicine there until his retirement in 1996. He practiced emergency medicine part-time from 2003 through 2006. Dr. Guthrie is survived by his wife, Brenda Guthrie, of Houston,TX, son Michael Guthrie and wife Kathy of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, daughter Sherrie Guthrie of Tulsa, OK, granddaughters Sarah Guthrie of Phoenix, AZ, Rachael Guthrie, Hannah Gurzi and husband Ryan of Broken Arrow, OK, and five great grandchildren; two stepsons, Jeffrey Roberts and wife Dianna of Rosharon, TX, and Mark Daniel Roberts of Houston, TX, and four step grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Shirley Bass and husband R.L. of Oklahoma City, OK, Oleda Putman, Earlene Burge and husband Don of Pearland, TX; brothers Joe Guthrie and wife Joyce of Phoenix, AZ, L.B. Guthrie of Tulsa, OK, and Lonnie Guthrie and wife Janice of Katy, TX. Roy was passionate about medicine, OU football, and barbershop singing.Â He was a lifetime member of the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association, and a longtime member of the Founders Chorus. He will be sorely missed by all his family and friends. Funeral service will be held at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 7903 E. 15th St., Tulsa, OK, on 10:00 am, Wednesday, April 4, 2012.Â Burial will follow at Floral Haven Cemetery.Â Family visitation will be Tuesday evening, April 3, from 6 to 8 pm.Â Memorials may be made to Kirksville College of Medicine, 800 W.
