April 27, 1954 - August 11, 2021
William David Axsom, known as David to all who knew and loved him, was born on April 27th 1954 in New Albany, MS to George Axsom and Clara Axsom. He passed away in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 67. He is survived by his two sons, Zachary and Caleb, their mother, Debbie, daughter in laws Brandi and Tamsye, his four grandchildren who he loved more than anything, Mitchell, Lauryn, Henley, and Kinley, two brothers, Ralph and Robert, three sisters, Randy, Dana, and Karen, along with a huge list of loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Clara and George, and his sister Kathy. David retired from the City of Tulsa Water Department after many years of service and enjoyed the retired life thoroughly. He was an avid reader of anything sci-fi. His bookshelves sagged with the weight of all the paperbacks he had read time and time again. He loved going to the movies to see any of the new releases and would enjoy taking anyone and everyone that would want to go with him--sometimes whether they wanted to or not. He had the biggest heart. He cared genuinely for anyone in distress, was kind and compassionate to everyone he met, and loved his entire family deeply and truly. He had a soft spot for dogs especially. He had an honest grin that could crack the hardest of hearts. He had a laugh that came from the belly and would resonate whenever it came out. His grandkids thought it sounded a lot like Santa. As a big man, he really was a gentle giant with a huge heart to match He could hug like there was no tomorrow. He gave these great big bear hugs that was like hugging a giant teddy bear full of love. He made you feel special when you were with him by giving you the attention you needed and made it all about you. He was always there to cheer on his grandkids in their extracurricular activities and loved celebrating all of their accomplishments with them. He enjoyed his solitude, but never shielded away from a gathering of friends or family. He also enjoyed good naps in his recliner, Eskimo Joe shirts, corny dad jokes, and a good meal with his family. Memorial service will be held on Thursday August 26th at the Church of the Madeline, 3188 E. 22nd St, Tulsa OK 74114 at 11am. He will be greatly missed by the loved ones left behind to remember him.
